5 Steps To Properly Clean Hardwood Floors

Do your hardwood floors need some love? Fear not, for we have put together a simple 5 step guide on how to properly clean those beautiful wood planks.

First things first, let’s talk about the tools of the trade. You’ll need a good microfibre mop, a bucket with a wringer, some warm water and a pH neutral cleaning solution specifically designed for hardwood floors. You don’t need to spend a fortune either as there are great and inexpensive options at Canadian Tire, Walmart or Home Depot. Just make sure that it is pH neutral and specifically designed for hardwood floors.

Step 1: Start by sweeping or vacuuming the floor to get rid of debris which can cause scratching during the cleaning process.

Step 2: Fill up that bucket with warm water and add in your cleaning solution. Make sure to follow the instructions on the label and never use more cleaner than it says, as it won’t actually get your floor cleaner and can actually damage your floors.

Step 3: Dip your mop into the solution and wring it out well. You don’t want a sopping wet mop but, rather, just a damp mop, as too much water can also damage your floors over time.

Step 4: Start mopping in small sections, making sure to overlap your strokes to ensure that you’re not missing any spots.

Step 5: Once you’ve finished mopping, use a different dry mop head go over the floors to pick up any remaining moisture. It is really important not to leave any standing water on your floors. If you don’t have an extra mop head then make sure that it is really well wrung out.

And there you have it, perfectly clean hardwood floors in 5 easy steps.
